La Palma, great pride in their homes and neighborhoods
Located in North Orange County, close to the L.A. County border, La Palma is home to a diverse population that enjoys its small town atmosphere and convenient location. Residents take great pride in their homes and neighborhoods—four times a year the Community Activities and Beautification Committee recognizes residents who have turned their houses into show homes for their neighborhoods.
Originally incorporated in 1955 as Dairyland because of its high concentration of dairy farms, the city began to shed its agricultural image in the mid-60s with a new name, La Palma and a long-term plan for development. The Civic Center and Central Park were among the first projects to be completed and are popular gathering places for LaPalma’s residents today.
Central Park is the largest of the city’s green spaces and features a community center, outdoor pavilion and gazebo, soccer field, softball field, tennis courts, playground, barbecues and basketball courts. Denni Street Park, El Rancho Verde Park and a greenbelt walkway round out the city’s park system. The city has its own police department and is governed by a mayor and city council. The La Palma library is part of the Orange County Public Library System.
La Palma is served by five separate school districts: three elementary and two high schools. They are Buena Park Elementary , Centralia Elementary, Cypress Elementary, Anaheim Union High School and Fullerton Joint Union High School. La Palma students may also apply to attend Oxford Academy, a public school serving grades 7 – 12 that is ranked as one of the top 100 schools in the U.S.
