Cypress a friendly, hometown feel and thriving business corridor
Cypress is a city of approximately 60,000 residents on the northern edge of Orange County which boasts some of the most affordable housing in Orange County. The city has a friendly, hometown feel along with a thriving business corridor. Attractions such as Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and the Los Alamitos Race Track are a short drive away.
Originally home to many dairy farmers, the city was incorporated in 1956 as Dairy City in the “Moo Valley” along with its neighbors Dairyland (La Palma) and Dairy Valley (Cerritos). In 1957, city residents voted to change the name to Cypress and soon after the first city council was elected. In the mid 1970s the city passed a bond issue which led to the creation of the Community Center, a nature park, eight neighborhood parks and five school parks.
Cypress residents make frequent use of their many parks and the recreational opportunities and classes offered there. The Community Services and Recreation Department oversees a great variety of classes and activities for everyone from toddlers to senior citizens. For a complete listing of available activities visit the department’s website.
